“He’s behind on child support, too,” she adds as if that will help her.
Dozer’s hands tighten into fists but then he lets unravel. “When was the last time you saw him?” He asks.
“A year or two ago. I’m telling you the truth!” She yells in the middle of the street.
I’m surprised there aren’t as many neighbors out wanting to know what’s happening. In fact, the neighborhood is pretty much dead.
That was until we heard a gun shot ring out.
Her body falls with a sudden thud and we all turn to see who’s holding the gun.
Bella
I whisper: “You knew my mom?”
His face falls. “Baby, I’m so fuckin’ sorry. I didn’t know she was your mom.”
Even after the past couple of years, no one has told me what happened to my mom. I’ve never had one person tell me the whole story and I’m dying to know now.
“What happened?” I ask daintly.
He rubs my thighs. “It’s not gonna change anything you knowin’, you know that, right?” He asks.
I nod. “Yes, please.”
Beast shrugs. “Your dad owed us a lot of money and we went to your mom’s house to see if she knew where he was. She said she didn’t.”
I nod again stupidly. “Of course she didn’t. She hated my dad. He was always choosing the club over us and never cared about us at all.”
“Bella, you have to know something,” he says with conviction. “I’m a biker through and through.”
“I know, I know. I wouldn’t ask you to choose. Even if I had a right to ask you to choose.”
Because I love you.
I love you and it’s only been a couple of days.
I’m so head over heels in love with Beast I’m even disgusted with myself.
“You have the right to ask. You have the right to ask whatever you want. What I can do is something totally different.”
“What else did my mom say?” I ask him eagerly.
He’s struggling with something big. “She didn’t say anything else… She was shot afterwards.”
I hear his words but they are heavier than fists.
“Who shot her?” I whisper.
He smiles to console me and it does. He’s confirming what I’ve already known this whole time. I think in the back of my mind, I knew my dad killed my mom for whatever reason. For that same reason, he also left me in the wind to be sold off by his club.
The man didn’t care about anyone but himself. My dad was the most self absorbed person I’ve ever met and that’s saying a lot. A lot of my classmates were rich.
Beast wraps his arms around me to hold me tight. “Baby, I’m so fuckin’ sorry you didn’t know. You didn’t know what happened… I’m so fuckin’ sorry.”
I let him hold me. I let him do it because feeling his arms around me is the most comforting thing I could be feeling right now. I don’t cry. For some reason, I don’t cry. I think it’s because I knew all along and just needed someone else to tell me it out loud.
“Yo, Beast! We gotta get back to the clubhouse. Brothers from up state are comin’ by to help with the situation,” Prince exclaims off to the side.
