“Like what?” Jacob knew he was being defensive- but Serena wasn’t

“Like that time you thought a man was going to marry you because he

picked up your phone for you on the street?”

“You’re telling me that someone returning a phone isn’t a miracle in

your shift tomorrow?”

responded. When Jacob hung up he turned around to see Joe standing in

the hallway back in his regular clothes.

“I hope I didn’t keep you waiting too long.” Joe’s sudden appearance

made Jacob jump, but his timing was impeccable.

“Not at all. Things are fine. I entertained myself with some…stuff. I

helped some ladies make some soup and then- well just called Serena.” “What did you call her?”

“Oh…nothing I should repeat in church.” Jacob responded. “Riveting stuff.” Joe smiled. “You ready?”

“For what?”

“Just for the greatest night of your life.”

“I mean, I think I could be ready for that.” Jacob said. “What did you
