“So it’s not real love?” Jacob asked.
“What’s real love?” Teddy responded. “Do you even know?” “No. I mean- Maybe?” Jacob pondered. “You mean I’m going to lose
him?”
“You never had him. Not really.”
“What are you talking about? I’ve had him several times by now. And
he’s had me. And then we tried this one where we had each other but-” “And I’m sure it all feels very real and special right now but…” Teddy
sighed. “Just be careful, meatbag.” Jacob took a sip of water and frowned.
For some reason it tasted a bit more bitter this time.
“Look- I don’t want to upset you but what do you know about this guy?
What do you actually know?” Teddy asked.
“He’s smart. He’s funny. He cares about people.” Jacob listed them off
like bullet points.
“What’s his job?”
“He…works. Somewhere.” Jacob frowned.
“And his family?”
“Scottish? Maybe Danish?”
“What about his sexuality?”
“He’s gay. Obviously.” Jacob hesitated. “Presumably. He’s always
flirted with me. He has to be at least a little gay.”
“You don’t know what it was you dosed him with.” Teddy responded.
“Maybe he was just friendly?”
“People aren’t friendly to me.”
“No- most people aren’t friendly to you. But if he’s a kind hearted man
who was getting the occasional free coffee…” Teddy let the insinuation
hang in the air. Jacob felt an ick wrap around his guts.
“Oh fuck.” Jacob sat in the toilet. Then he stood back up, lowered the
seat, and then sat on the toilet. “Oh fuck. What if he was just friendly?” “There it is.” Teddy sighed as the realization seemed to sink into
Jacob’s brain in waves.
“Fuck! He might’ve been straight!” Jacob exclaimed. “Oh fuck!” “Give me five minutes and then I’ll be ready!” Joe called from the
bedroom.
