This whole thing felt easy. Like it was something that they had both been waiting for forever, and finally had found in each other.
“What was she like?” Jacob asked.
“Who?”
“Your wife. What was she like?” Jacob asked. “Sorry, was that too out of nowhere?”
“No. It’s fine. I can understand your curiosity about it.” Joe chuckled. “Well…She was wonderful. We dated for three years before I finally popped the question. She was sweet, kind and gentle-”
“So nothing like me then?”
“Oh no, you’re pure chaos, and excitement. She was calm and relaxed. She loved singing. Her voice wasn’t great, but there was no more beautiful sound. We were married for two years.”
“And then what happened?”
“Life I suppose. We were kids, but when you get married that young you don’t take stock of what is your desire and what isn’t. You just want what others expect you to want so we did what we were supposed to do. We got married too soon and it became all about when we should have kids and I-”
“You didn’t?” Jacob pried.
“Well- I had a choice to make. She wanted to start a family. I didn’t. So she left and found someone who would. I’m not saying that’s the only reason- I was angrier then, more volatile. I needed the time and space to work on myself to become a betterversion of myself. And I think I did an okay job. But once I started at the church, things fell into place. I was able to help people. I was able to be the person I always wanted to be.”
“Do you still talk to her at all?” Jacob asked.
“We keep in touch. She’s with a nice man named Joey.” Joe laughed.
“I guess she has a type.” Jacob snickered.
“I guess so. But all that was many years ago now. I’m happy for her but it’s another lifetime really.” Joe grabbed Jacob’s hand. “And I have better things in my life now.”
“Like what?” Jacob asked. Joe stopped him and gave him a kiss in the middle of the street. When they pulled back Jacob smiled. “You didn’t answer the question.”
“Shut up.” Joe chuckled and pulled him in for another kiss.
“So…I guess you’re bisexual then?” Jacob asked, somewhat hopeful.
“I’ve always had feelings before. But with you…It’s a bit more intense. It’s like you’re a new colour that I’ve always known about, but never realized was there. You make me feel many things.” Jacob hugged Joe. He had hoped for a stronger answer, but the more he thought about it, the more he felt unsure about everything.
“I was really hoping for an enthusiastic yes.” Jacob responded.
“Sexuality is complicated I guess.” Joe whispered in Jacob’s ear. Jacob felt Joe slide his hand down his back and pull him closer. Underneath his jeans, he could feel Joe’s erection poking into his thigh. “I have a really wicked idea if you’re up for it.”
“We never did get to finish in the fish store.” Jacob whispered.
“We did what now?” Joe asked.
“I’m up for it.” Jacob yipped a bit too fast.
“Then follow me.” Joe growled, and grabbed Jacob’s hand as they arrived at the church. Instead of going in the front they slipped into a side door, made their way through the halls.
“Your office?” Jacob asked, feeling a prick of excitement in his brain.
“Very important people only.” Joe cooed. “And this is a very important business.”

Coffee. (Extra Hot)
Joe opened the door to the space, which was actually a lot more boring than Jacob had anticipated. In one part of the room hung a collection of special vestments and robes- most of which appeared to have never been worn. There were a few chairs, a green couch in the corner, and a fancy black desk by a series of stained glass windows. The one wall was covered in books which appeared to be slapped together in an organizational system created by a man in college who never learned to organize.
