“She had no choice,” Number Four’s feminine voice pipes up, sadly.

“Why the fuck not?”

“Because the other beneficiaries would have been impacted,” Number One snaps impatiently.

“Wasn’t there a way for her to contest this?”

Number Two speaks up, “No.”

“No? That’s it? No?”

Number Five explains, “She only learned about this provision a few days ago and is returning to New York as we speak.”

My stomach churns. “From where?”

“From London. She and the other beneficiaries were told in person. They left the final decision up to her,” Number One explains.

“If I agree to these terms? What happens then?”

“You and Ms. Moore will have suitable lodging for the duration. After the terms of the estate have been met, she will receive her inheritance and you will receive the sum of one hundred fifty million dollars.”

“And if we don’t? What happens then?”

“The money would revert to the estate.”

“Who does that consist of?”

“That’s confidential.”

I want to say no just on principle just to screw over Ursula, but the lawyer is done answering my questions. He just holds out a hand, directing me toward the stacked pile of documents to sign that guarantee bringing me back into Ursula’s orbit.

“Hold up.” Everyone stops moving. “What’s the deal? Do I have any restrictions?”

Number Two’s face is blank. “Pardon?”

“Things I can’t do.”

Number Four nudges Two and whispers in his ear. Two clears his throat. “If you mean your extracurricular proclivities, no. The will doesn’t stipulate ceasing those activities.”

I’m about to correct them when I realize Ursula is unlikely to stop seeing Joshua Basset. I’m going to have an upfront view to their relationship.

Fucking hell.

“I deserve every penny for enduring that, not just one hundred and fifty million,” I mutter.

“Pardon?” Number Four queries.

“Nothing. Let’s get this over with.”

I begin signing papers that are going to make it very easy to walk away from my wife.

In just one short year.

CHAPTERTWENTY-SEVEN

With the Rugby World Cup and Football World Cup happening so close on the calendar, one wonders if the sale of certain men’s protective gear will skyrocket just as school is about to start due to supply chain issues.

I mean, we all know men can’t bear to have their precious jewels trampled on.
