“What’s the catch?”
“The catch is you stop fighting me.”
“That’s not happening,” Libby said. Stone put his hands down. He stepped back. He was calm and cool to Libby’s fire.
“I don’t want to interrupt the event. It’s a nice event. We’ll talk another time when you’re not insane.”
“Insane!”
Stone walked away, and Libby had to be restrained by Hope.
Viv and Hope circled Libby in an attempt to calm her down.
“Your aunts and your mom got this, do you think? Should I go get Stone back here so she can, uh, finish?” Cole asked. He seemed to want to go after Stone, or punch something if the need arose. Cole had a protective streak; Libby and his dad were a thing. Siena could easily see Cole adding muscle if he thought Libby wanted him to. That would not be a great idea. Siena decided to do her part to cool the overall temperature of the situation.
“If anyone does, they do. It’s fine. She’ll be fine.”
“Wow, I thought Libby was going to murder a billionaire in the middle of a Burgundy Four concert. That would have been something.”
“Yeah. Same.”
Siena’s mom came over to Siena and Cole.
“We’re going to get Rocky Balboa over to Hope’s for a calming glass of wine.”
“She did not handle that well,” Siena said.
“There’s a lot of history,” Cole pointed out.
“I probably need to find out more on that score,” Siena admitted.
“Exactly, well, Cole can fill you in. See you, kids, later, okay?”
“Okay.”
Aunt Hope, Aunt Libby, and Siena’s mom left. Burgundy Four was now singing to Aunt Goldie. The crowd loved it, maybe they’d remember that, instead of the weird way Libby and Randy Barton left things.
Cole took her hand. His attention was fully on Siena.
“What are you in the mood for?” Cole asked.
“How about a nice quiet drive around the lake?”
“Sold. These GenXer Women are scaring me.”
“Ha, same.”
ChapterTwenty-Nine
Libby
Libby sat with Viv and Hope and tried not to drink her wine too fast.
She failed.
“How in the world did I let this get by me?”
“You’re too hard on yourself. The man has money, but the Bartons don’t. He helped them out. It will be fine,” Viv soothed.
