“How far away is this location?” Nathan asked.

“Almost an hour,” Ann replied.

“Then I suggest we plan on the way there,” Nathan said.

“Good call,” Mitchel said. “Let’s get a move on.”

“We have access to a limo that would fit all of us, and we have an excellent driver. It’s perhaps not the ideal vehicle for our purpose, but it’s what’s available here and now. I’ll get Becket to pull around this instant.” Luther picked up his cell.

“If we can park close to the building, Nathan and Josh can scout a perimeter and scent whether or not Sinclair’s been through it. Then we’ll know for sure, and the limo can stay hidden,” Mitchel suggested.

“Perfect.” Ann looked them over. “We can’t thank you enough for your help. Sinclair is priceless to us.”

“Of course. He’s our friend,” Nathan assured her.

“Come,” Luther beckoned. “The car will be here any moment.”

They hurried out of the building and to the curb just as the limo pulled up. An unlikely rescue vehicle, but at the moment, it was perfect.

“Well, get a move on,” the driver yelled. “We don’t have all night.”

The group packed into the car, and as Becket peeled away from the hotel, they pored over the funeral home’s blueprint.

Thanks to the vampires, they wouldn’t be going in blind.

Sinclair

Each time Gutter’sattention flagged, Sinclair would try his restraints. They were looser this time around, and he was almost sure he could slip out of them if the right opportunity arose. Every time he wriggled and pulled, they’d slacken a smidge more. He would bide his time for the right opportunity, then take his chances.

If Sinclair could get Gutter talking, maybe he’d get more information out of him. A glimmer of an idea took hold. Maybe not the best plan, but worth a shot.

“So, what’s your cut?” Sinclair asked.

Gutter startled and backed into the wall. So he was fearful of being alone with a vampire. Sinclair would use that if he could.

“Shut up,” Gutter growled at him, bravado securely back in place.

Sinclair pressed on. “I mean, they stand to make a lot of money off me as long as I’m not harmed, don’t they? What do you get out of it?”

“None of your business,” he grunted, but he seemed to be considering the question.
