“Super illegal. But I’ve never been worried about being on the right side of the law. Just what’s right. And convincing a man to leave his perfectly respectable job as a teacher and attack his cousin doesn’t seem to be what’s right.” She turned and walked out of the room, closing and locking the big heavy metal door behind her.

Outside, she found Sean and Enzo standing there with Moss. “Anything?” Moss asked.

“He’s hiding something, but he won’t say what,” she said, looking at Sean. “Maybe protecting someone? Based on my research, my guess would be his sister.”

Sean sighed and combed his hand through his hair. “He has more family than Freya, but she’s as good a guess as any. They also have a little brother, Collin.”

Chapter 17 - Enzo

“I have a plan,” Moss said, leaning back against his desk a few days after they had brought Declan in. Their interrogations were not going well, and Declan had remained annoyingly tight-lipped.

“A plan?” Enzo studied Moss. He looked too relaxed. It was something that Enzo by now knew meant that he was ready to strike at a moment’s notice. And it was a little terrifying. Enzo glanced at the door, and Moss snorted.

“Don’t look so terrified. My plan does not involve murdering you for wanting to fuck my sister.”

“Really?” Enzo frowned. “Wait. I didn’t look terrified.”

Moss cackled. “Yeah right. Anyway, I like you. I don’t care if you want to marry my sister. It seems like a good fit, and it would make her happy.”

“I never said I wanted to marry her.” Enzo had a feeling this entire situation was going to lead to his untimely death. And he hadn’t even had any sex with India.

Moss snorted. “Obviously you do. I don’t know if you should legally get married, though, with Sean in the mix. Adultery is still a crime in some states. Do you think Sean will stick around? He seems crazy about you.”

“What?” Enzo’s mind reeled as he stared at his boss, trying to think of an appropriate response that would not get him killed. While he had strong feelings for India and Sean, he was definitely not the marrying type. He would not marry India Moss and Sean Blackstone, no matter how obsessive he felt when he was around the two of them.

Moss snapped his fingers in front of Enzo’s face. “Stop thinking about what kinds of floral arrangements you want. The wedding plans will have to wait.”

“I wasn’t thinking about floral arrangements. I was thinking about how insane you are.”

“Yeah, right. Do you have a Pinterest board yet? India likes daisies. Maybe an outdoor wedding?”

“Moss.” But as Enzo was about to lose his shit, he caught a subtle tic at the corner of Moss’s lips. “Fuck. Are you messing with me?”

“A bit. But also, I expect you to take anything you do with my sister seriously. She deserves a good future. I want her to find whatever makes her happy, and it seems like it might include you two idiots.”

“Fine.” That was impossible to argue with because Enzo wanted the same thing—to see India happy.

“Oh, also, can you stop by her office and hug her or something? She seemed stressed this morning, and I think talking to you would help.” Moss gave Enzo a steady look that was surely a minefield. Any wrong words here and Enzo was screwed.

“Fine, I’ll see if she’s in,” he said with a sigh.

“You knew what you were getting into when you seduced my sister, yet you did it anyway. Just be happy with my choice of consequences.” Moss had, at some point, started idly flipping that fucking butterfly knife around. No one knew if he did that to be threatening, or if it was a fidget toy to him. Enzo took a deep breath, trying to pick the right words.

“I don’t do commitments. And I didn’t seduce her.”

“You didn’t do commitments until now, you mean.” On anyone else, Moss’s tone and expression would have looked harmless. On Spencer Moss, the expression made Enzo think he was about to get disappeared if he didn’t comply.

“I’ll talk to her, okay? See what she wants. I’m not sure she’s into us, anyway.”

“Oh, she’s into you. She’s socially awkward as fuck. Push her to admit it.”

“You were going to tell me about a plan?” Moss nodded and shifted in his chair, setting the knife down.

“Right, so no daydreams about your dress while I go over this.” Moss’s expression changed as he pulled out a tablet and got down to the real business of this meeting. He started detailing his plan, which sounded completely ridiculous but classic Moss, and Enzo sighed. Sometimes, he wondered if he had made the right choice coming to work with these insane people. Other times, they were like the family he had never had.

After the meeting, he stalked down the hallway, pausing in front of India’s office. He took a slow, calming breath, and decided it was best to do as Moss asked. He walked inside without knocking, sat on her desk and lifted her out of her chair and into his lap, giving her a deep kiss. She whimpered and wrapped her arms around his waist and kissed him back, pressing into him. He was surprised at how intense the kiss was, wrapping his fingers into her hair and deepening it, pulling her closer. They had insane chemistry. She needed to kiss Sean.

“What are you doing, Enzo?” She was smiling, her eyes sparkling a little, and it made him wonder why he hadn’t taken the time to make her look like that when he first got into work. Or when they were in that safe house together. She shifted her hips against his erection, and Enzo wanted her.
