“You know, mayo and mustard.” He started laughing, as did Donny, and I laughed with them.
“Silly. Okay. I got it.”
We ate peanut butter and jelly toast with our coffee, and they both ended up with more jelly on their faces than they’d put on the toast. That prompted washing their face and hands after sticky kisses. Then, finally, the car came to pick them up, and an Uber arrived to take me home, but instead of heading to an empty house, I went to the firehouse. I didn’t want to be alone. Not after having spent a few weeks with those two in my pockets.
The ride over was fucking sad, and I hated feeling like that. And hated how much I already missed them. Donny’s silly antics and excitability and Kay’s reserved, ever-watching face. They were so different but fit together in an interesting and challenging way. I was in over my head with them but wanted to hold on with both hands at the same time.
I walked through the bay, tapping the side of the firetruck as I went farther in. The LAFD had over a hundred stations with more trucks, making a vast family that spanned the city. Our particular house wasn’t as busy as others, and we often helped cover shifts for some of the other stations. We also trained a lot. But most of my time was spent on truck 89 at the Eagle Rock Station 42. It was a bit of a drive from home, which was closer to Glendale, due to the cost of living. I didn’t make enough to actually live in Eagle Rock. It had never bothered me before, butit was starting to since I only made a fraction of what my littles did. And hell, Donny lived over in Studio City, which was to be expected since he was in the entertainment industry, even if he was a lawyer. That area was the epitome of affluence.
It was too much to think about. I liked my job and made enough.
“Yo! Saxon. What’re you doing here? You’re not on until tomorrow.” Colten tossed a rag at me that he’d been using to wipe counters with.
“Fucker. I—”
“You’re alone now. Your cute boyfriends had to go?” he teased.
“Something like that.”
I told him everything, so he wasn’t questioning me. “Let’s get some coffee and talk.” He grabbed a couple of mugs from the upper cabinet where we kept them and slid one to me to doctor up. Once we had our mugs filled, we sat at the table. For once, there wasn’t anyone else around, but I heard them in other parts of the house. “Now, what’s going on? I take it these few weeks went well?”
“Surprisingly. I thought I’d be ready to let it all go after a few days of riding around in the bus with them, but honestly, I can’t get enough.”
“Lucky you.” He peered at me over his mug. “And I am fully aware of who Kay is… fucking A that man is super-hot.”
“He is and you should see Donny! Ugh…they’re killing me.” I looked up at the ceiling, wishing I were still with them.
“Damn! I don’t want to hear about you three together.” He eyed me up and down. “Scorching.”
“Whatever…but not gonna lie, the sex is hot. But it’s more than that.”
“More?” But then rolled his eyes and didn’t wait for an answer. “I get it. I’ve played with littles before. They’re fucking cute.”
“They are.”
“And they hit all your mushy needs to take care of someone, and in this case, two someones.” He held up two fingers and winked at me.
“Yep. The thing is…they don’t really need me. You’re aware that Kay’s a star, and hell, Donny is a lawyer.”
“You said entertainment lawyer?”
“Yep.” I stared into my coffee, wishing there were more insights to be found there, but I guessed it wasn’t like reading tea leaves, not that I could do that either.
“That doesn’t mean they don’t need you. Hell, money has nothing to do with it. They don’t want you for material things, dumbass.”
“That’s true. But I’m—”
“Second-guessing yourself? Not like you ever dothat…” Motherfucker was fluent in sarcasm.
I flipped him off. He wasn’t wrong, really. I did have something else for them. I loved taking care of others, which made me a great firefighter, and I wanted to take care of them in a lot of intimate ways. I hoped for the chance to show my littles how much again soon.
Chapter thirteen
Kay
Our next shows were in Albuquerque, then Denver. It wouldn’t be all that long before we took a break for Christmas in Florida. But I missed Saxon already. I slid into the seat next to Donny at the table in the middle of the bus. He was doing something on his laptop. “Stop. I miss Saxon.”
“I have to get this done for work, Kay.” He leaned into me and kissed the side of my face. “Already sent him the Christmas dates.”
