“Okay,” she agreed. I walked over to the food as I had seen them bring out the chocolate puddings. It was one of Amie’s favourite desserts, and I would make sure she got one of them. Alpha Jonas joined me a moment later and was plating fresh cut fruits in a bowl. I added cut up banana and whipped cream to Amie’s bowl.

“It never changes,” Alpha Jonas said.

“What?” I asked. He smiled at me and looked down on the bowl in my hand.

“The need to make sure they are happy. Bea and I have been mated for twenty-eight years and I still have the instant need to make sure she has what I know she likes. I see a bowl of cut fruit and I will get a bowl of it for her with vanilla ice cream and caramel sauce. I don’t care what I’m doing, I will pause it and make sure she has a bowl of it. It’s the same with anything I know she likes. I know she likes teddy bears. I have built an extra room in our house for her collection as I buy her one when I find one I know she doesn’t have,” he explained. I chuckled.

“Yeah. I figured it wouldn’t go away. I have been the same since we met,” I confessed as I grabbed a cup of coffee for myself.

“Just wait until the first pup. I’m amazed I survived that period of our lives. It was a close call a couple of times. Pregnancy hormones and Alpha protectiveness in overdrive is not a good combination,” he told me and laughed. He also grabbed a coffee and we both walked back to our mates.

“Chocolate pudding with banana? Thank you,” Amie said as I handed her the bowl. Her bright smile and the happy look in her eyes as she took a spoonful of it, was the reward I needed. I placed a kiss on her hair as I sat down next to her.

“Any time,” I said. Next to Amie, Luna Beatrice seemed just as happy with her fruit and ice cream. It was nice to sit and look into the fire and enjoy the evening. I let my thoughts wander. When we were ready to start trying for a pup it might be good for me to get some advice on how to handle my need to protect Amie. It was strong as it was, add a pup to it and I could see myself going slightly overboard. Fortunately I had Sam and Jake, and I could ask Amie’s dad as well. He had survived two pregnancies with her mom, he had to have some good information.

‘What are you thinking about? You are smiling from ear to ear,’ Amie asked in our private link.

‘The future, it looks good,’ I told her. She hummed and offered me a spoon full of her treat. I accepted it even though I knew I wouldn’t like it. I wouldn’t turn down anything she offered me. I must have made a face because Amie giggled.

“Just say ‘no thank you’ if you don’t like it,” she said.

“I like it. Kind of,” I objected. She looked at me. “It’s the banana. It’s too sweet and sticky,” I confessed. Both Luna Beatrice and Alpha Jonas laughed. Amie just shook her head and offered me a new scoop, this time without bananas. It was much tastier.

“Thank you, sweetheart,” I told her.

As we got ready to head home two days later, we could confirm the trip had been successful. There had been four new matings. Three of the couples had decided to settle down in our pack while LouAnn had decided to move to Winter Peak pack to be with her mate. All of them had solved the move the same way as Ramses and his mate. It meant three of our pack mates would be going with the Winter Peak pack and we would get to host LouAnn’s mate for a couple of weeks. We also had a signed alliance with Winter Peak pack. We were more than happy about it and looked forward to working with them in the future. I offered to drive back to let the newly mated take the back seat. Amie sat next to me and looked relaxed and happy. She made some small talk with the two in the back, but mostly left them to themselves. When we finally passed onto our pack land, I enjoyed the feeling of being back.

“Finn, honey, is there something you forgot to tell me?” Amie asked as we got to the village. I thought about it as we parked outside the pack house.

“No, don’t think so,” I said.

“So the fact they are building an extension to our house was not something you thought I should know?” she asked, sounding more amused than angry.

“Oh. Yeah, it might have slipped my mind. I asked them to start while we were away so we wouldn’t have to live with the house in a mess for too long,” I admitted. I felt sheepish about forgetting to tell her. Amie laughed and kissed me as we got out of the car.

“Thank you. Have you picked out the wallpapers and floor as well?” she asked. I may be forgetful from time to time, but I wasn’t suicidal.

“No, I will leave that up to you since it’s your office. And if you want to change anything else while you are at it, feel free to do so,” I said.

“I like our house as it is. But we might need to repaint the living room after they made space for a new door. And thank you for letting me design my office, I have never done something like that. It will be fun.” I smiled and nodded. It was one more thing that was falling into place in our new life. I was enjoying watching how our life together was changing things around us, making physical changes that served as evidence for the new way of life.

Chapter 78

Amie

Iwas sound asleep, comfortably tucked in halfway underneath Finlay as usual when my phone woke me up. Nothing good ever came from being woken up in the middle of the night by a phone call. I reached for it and knew Finlay was just as awake and worried as I was.

“Hello?” I answered without even looking at who was calling.

“Luna Amie, we can’t stay here any longer,” someone whispered on the other end. It took my brain a moment to recognise the voice.

“Bridget, are you in danger?” I asked Martin’s sister. Finlay raised an eyebrow.

“No, we are safe for now. But we can’t stay. My mom and dad agree with me for once,” she continued to whisper. It had to be bad if she was making a call in the middle of the night.

“You are always welcome here if you need somewhere safe to stay. Can you get here?”

“Yeah, I think we can get out unnoticed. Thank you, Luna.”
