“Clearly, she can,” Chrissy replied.
“You two are helping her evade the question,” Wave groaned.
“It’s Salis, okay,” Diana blurted out.“But he’s—”
Now it was Wave’s turn to laugh so hard she had to wipe tears from her eyes.“Oh boy.Yeah, no.Your only competition there is Angie.Salis and I.”Wave mimicked Diana’s earlier shudder.“No way.Ever.”
“But he’s always hanging all over you, kissing you and—”
“He’s my best friend,” Wave said quietly.“I’m not saying that he’s like my brother, because I’m not blind and that eight pack almost made me swallow my tongue, but I’m not into him like that and he definitely is not into me like that.”
“You can’t know that—”
Wave cut Diana’s protest off.“I can.We talked after Marc threatened to poke his eyes out.”
“You—he—you did?”
Wave smiled gently.“Yeah.He’s a great guy, but not one for me.”
Diana seemed to be at a loss for words, and for once, Ginny and Chrissy didn’t have anything to say either. They all waited in silence while Diana sorted her head.
“You are certain he’s not interested in you like that?”she finally said.
“I am.”
“Okay.”
Wave grinned.“That’s it?Okay?Do you want me to introduce you two?I could invite him over to watch a movie with us or something.”
“Yes,” Ginny said.“I’ll get the popcorn!”
“I’ll clean up,” Chrissy said, looking over the pretty spotless room.
“I’ll—”
“You go put on something cute and casual,” Chrissy told flustered Diana and then turned to Wave.“Make the call.”
“Ay, ay, Captain!”Wave saluted and walked to her room. She had a very important call to make.
Chapter 40 – Wave
Ittookuntilthenext week’s extra shielding practice for her fake boyfriend to bring up Salis.Wave wiped sweat from her brow as she climbed back on her feet.
“So, why is angel-boy constantly getting asked over for movie nights, but I’m not?”Marc growled as he prepared to blast Wave back on her ass.
“It’s not constantly,” Wave huffed.
“Three nights last week. All the nights this week that you weren’t working.I’d say it’s pretty constant,” Marc replied as a blast of air came at her and Wave fell down, rolled over, and got back to her feet. That blast had held more of a punch than previous ones.
“It’s not like that,” Wave said, cursing herself. She should have asked if Di was okay with her explaining this to her non-boyfriends.She wouldn’t betray her trust like that.
“Like what?”
“Let it go, Marc,” Wave said and crossed her arms.
“I let it go when you were hanging all over him, studying, and when the rumors about you in his shirt and him following you around shirtless surfaced, but this… What the fuck are you doing, Wayla?”
“What do you think I’m doing?”
