Justin looked worriedly at Jarred.“You okay?”
“I’m fine,” Jarred ground out.He wasn’t.His cock ached, his brain felt way too mushy, and he really wanted her to take charge like that because she wanted to kiss him, not to shut him up.
“She was just sitting and calmly eating her fries.I think I’m a little bit in love,” Marc sighed.“Any chance she’d be up to taking combat lessons?”
“Not you too,” Zahir laughed.“I mean, she’s pretty, but not like—”
Sinister’s low growl cut Zahir off.
“Hey, don’t get on a high horse before you’ve been close enough to smell her.She smells incredible, like a fresh storm.”At Hellion’s words, the rest fell silent again. When he noticed all the stares, he just shrugged.“I stopped her from face-planting into a pillar when we arrived.”
Jarred groaned.“Well, fuck.I didn’t pay attention then…”
“She’s the girl from the stairs?”Hazard asked.
“Yeah,” Hellion said and then shrugged with a sheepish smile.“She didn’t cower away from me or my aura.I like that in a woman.”
“This gets more and more interesting,” Sinister mused.“Maybe I should go introduce myself. She ran away earlier.”
“I’ll come with you,” Zahir immediately added.Jarred groaned under his breath. He wouldn’t egg those two on.They went after any new and even slightly interesting woman on the campus on principle every time things were rough with Rosaliz.
Justin pushed a steaming plate of baked potato and steak at him and narrowed his eyes when Jarred didn’t immediately pick up his fork. The food held no interest to him, but he hadn’t been able to finish his food in the cafeteria, so he swallowed his objections and picked up a fork.Justin always made a fuss if Jarred skipped a meal.Apparently, it made him cranky. His stomach grumbled, making Justin’s point for him.Jarred tuned out the rest of the discussion and replayed the moment when Wayla had kissed him.
She didn’t seem threatened by powerful males, be it him or his friends. That warranted some notice from all of them. The power imbalance made most wary, even those who were vying for attention or favors, but not Wayla. She seemed to be quite adept at holding her ground. No one had dared to throw water at any of them as a joke… maybe ever.
And, for all the moons and stars, her lips were so gods damn soft.If he someday could have them wrapped around his cock, he could die a happy being.
“Get a room!”Sinister poked his side, pulling Jarred out of his fantasies.
Zahir looked pleadingly at him, “Whatever that was, please let me be in the house when you make it a reality.I’m starting to feel full just snacking on the edges of this.”
“Stop feeding on my hard on pervert,” Jarred grumbled.
Zahir lifted his hands.“Sorry, can’t help it.It’s been too long of a dry spell.”
“Rose gave them the boot,” Grant stage whispered, and suddenly, the room started emptying.Grant just looked slightly smug as he narrowed his eyes at the disappearing incubi.Jarred took his chance to escape, too.He needed a very long shower.
“If you plan on jerking that off, use cold water,” Grant hollered after him.
Chapter 6 – Wave
MaybeWavehadn’ttrulyappreciated what kind of interest the Powerhouses garnered in Tracthesian Academy. Her new girl status had slowly started to wane after the first couple of days. Now it renewed with vengeance.
Whispers followed her everywhere she went.Someone was always introducing themselves to her and trying to pry some information out of her.It took less than a day for invites to start pouring in: parties, study groups, luncheons, and brunches. She politely refused all of them, not interested in the least in being the circus clown that everyone stared at.There was nothing she could do about the rumors, but she could stay out of their sight outside of class.
In her Astrology and Magical Fluctuations class, Tulias bombarded her with questions, but somehow managed not to irritate Wave. And she hoarded Wave’s attention to the point that no one else could really get a word in edgewise.
During lunch, Salis usually hung out with her, providing another buffer. She actually liked his company, and today she needed it even more than usual. She would have to face Jarred later for her tutoring session.Gods.What had she been thinking before? She needed to work with the man, not just ogle his ass in class.
And there absolutely was no reason for her to make sure her contraception shot was up to date.None.She wasn’t going to jump into bed with anyone, much less her tutor. At least she didn’t need to worry about STDs and condoms like with humans. Why was she thinking about any of this?
“Just so you know, you are the new it-girl of the season,” Salis said as he dropped his tray next to hers. They’d avoided Grand Hall after the incident, but Wave didn’t have any complaints about food in the other halls.
“What?”
“You are the it-girl,” Salis repeated and then stuffed some pasta into his mouth like he had never seen food before.
“No, I’m not.”
