She pulled it from the hanger and held it to her body. The size seemed about right, and she peeled the blue dress away. Setting Fin’s ring on the bed, she slid the thin material up her legs and torso, then hooked thin straps together over her shoulders. She peered into the mirror on the inside of the furniture’s door.

She had to admit, the gown accented her curves nicely.

The ring went back into her cleavage. She wasn’t about to risk him finding it again. Oh no, his little treasure was staying close to her heart and away from his hands.

Stifling a yawn, she walked to the door. Reaching for the handle, she paused.

A male voice spoke in hushed tones.

She peeked through the cracked opening to the room across the hall.

“You can’t come out.” Fin stood, his back to her, in front of a large desk. His neck was bent, like he inspected his stomach or hips. “No, I don’t feel like playing with you right now, anyhow. I need to tuck you inside.”

Oh my God.Sacha choked on a snicker. “Uhm. Are you talking to your”—a harsh laugh snuck out—“knob?”

He jumped, and then twisted to face her, the bottom of his robe twirling with the quick movement. “No, I amnot.” Two bright spots flushed each cheek, and he opened the robe.

“Whoa, no need to show me—”

“I was talking to Cyan, trying to get him to go to bed.”

Sacha raised an eyebrow and wiped a tear of merriment from her cheek. “Sure, whatever you say.” She made a point to look for the dragon. “Seems he’s nowhere to be found.”

“Oh, he’s here. He just enjoys making me look like a fool.” He bent down to search under the desk.

“Okay.” A beat of silence passed. “Well, I hope you and your knob—err, Cyan—have a good night.”

She shut the door at the same time he began to walk her way. Her stomach hurt from holding in the laughter.

Twisting the deadbolt, she leaned against the wood.Shouldshe lock it? Would it be such a bad thing if the crazy, sexy man lurked outside the door tonight?

The thought of his hands sliding across her skin made her heart pound. She wasn’t a one-night-stand kind of girl, but there was something about the crass, grouchy jerk that made her knees knock together and sweat pool at the small of her back.

No, I don’t know him well enough for such a close encounter. In the morning, I’ll thank him and Margaret, and be on my way to freedom without any messy entanglements.

She slid between silky, purple sheets. Laying in the darkened room, with an occasional flash of lightning and the flare of firelight for illumination, she twisted to find a more agreeable position. But even though the mattresslookedcomfortable, no matter which way she turned, something hard dug into her spine.

“Dammit. This bed freaking sucks.” She slid her feet to the floor and swiped a hand across the sheets. The surface was cool and smooth. There was nothing underneath.

Shaking her head, she jumped between the covers again and tried to find a comfortable position.

A boulder the size of a small car dug into her hip. How was she ever going to sleep tonight?

She let out a harsh sigh and flopped onto her stomach.

Fin’s chained ring poked at her skin. Thinking about her earlier thievery, she chuckled and flipped over.

A finger rubbed against the circular band and she relaxed.

Maybe, sleep would eventually find her, and if it didn’t, she at least had the satisfaction of knowing she now had the upper hand.

Chapter 16

Fin

Thering, heneededthe ring. Fin paced his room, and his eyes alighted on the many tomes and ingredients stacked neatly on his shelves.

How could it have disappeared so easily?
