Doyle nodded. "As long as you announce your visits to the light court palace well in advance, I'm sure Phiste can handle the rest."
"She's not leaving this castle for another two centuries," Phiste clarified. "At the earliest."
They all laughed, though I didn’t get the joke. I shoved another pastry in my mouth, so I didn't think too hard about how time worked here.
"That was a success," Doyle said once we were out of earshot on the path leading away from the castle.
"How so?" I asked. The rest of the conversation had seemed stilted, and once we'd finished one cup of tea each, we took our leave.
"She didn't order her pixies to kill us on sight." His chuckle sounded pained, and I winced. "Next time, we'll bring something back from the human realm for them. That will help with the hard conversation about how my grandmother tried to kill my fated mate. Do you think she'd like donuts?"
"That might be a full breakfast conversation," I said. "Bacon and eggs. Biscuits and gravy."
"Waffles and syrup." He grinned. "Have you ever seen a pixie try to fight on a full stomach? They won't know what hit them."
His tone said we would need all the help we could get.

Whew. I had been trapped in Mr. Moynahan's desk drawer too long before Bret found me. What a tool that guy was, but he gave me my freedom, if only for a moment. At least I didn't lose any time while I was jammed in Mother Thera's bench in the menagerie!
I hated watching Doyle and Parker from a distance, but I was close enough to allow their love to blossom like one of Doyle's flowers. They would be fine without me, now that they knew the meaning of true love.
