“I’m sure Emilie and Robert must be getting hungry. They hardly touched their breakfast this morning,” Edna said.

“Ye must have been nervous,” Maggie said. “I cannae say I blame ye.”

“Well, it will be a little while longer. Why don’t you show them around town and by the time you’re back everything will be ready?”

“It’s good to be back,” Angus said, as they left the inn and headed down the street.

“Are ye having regrets about the move to Edinburgh?” Edna was concerned. She thought he liked their new life.

“Of course no’. Can I no’ miss this as well?” Angus said.

“I just want to be sure yer happy.”

“As I’ve told ye, as long as I’m with ye I would be happy anywhere.”

Robert and Emilie’s heads hadn’t stopped moving from side-to-side and up and down. They were taking in all of the unusual things they’d never seen before.

“I cannae believe me eyes,” Robert said.

“Ye’ll get used to it all,” Edna said. “As I mentioned, I’ve brought several people back to this time from the sixteenth century. They’ve become quite adept at living in this time. As a matter of fact, I’ve been told by many they would never want to go back.”

“I don’t believe you’ve told us what year it is,” Emilie said.

“It’s the year 2022,” Edna replied.

Emilie shook her head in disbelief.

They wandered up and down the main road. Edna introduced them to anyone they met along the way. Robert and Emilie were assured by all that they were most welcome in Glendaloch and were told if they ever needed anything all they had to do was ask.

“Everyone is so kind,” Robert said. “I think we will be happy here.”

“I believe we will,” Emilie said, smiling sweetly up at him.

“We should head back now,” Angus said. “I believe Dylan will be ready for us and I for one am hungry again.”

Maggie and Dylanwere waiting to greet them when they got back. “We’ll have to get ye both settled in. Emilie, I’ve got some clothing ye can borrow until we get ye things of yer own,” Maggie said, rubbing her belly. “None of it fits me right now.”

“Thank you,” Emilie said. “My dress is out of place, although most of the people we met didn’t even seem to notice.”

“They’re used to seeing people from different times roaming around town,” Angus informed her.

“Come on into the dining room and have a seat. I’ll get the food and drinks.” Dylan hurried back through the kitchen door.

Edna and Angus led their guests to the family table where they’d always sat for their meals.

Dylan returned with a tray of food which he placed on the table in front of them. “Dig in.”

“It smells delicious,” Robert said, eyeing the ribs.

“Help yourselves,” Dylan said. “Ale?”

“Aye,” Robert and Angus both said at once.

“Ice water for Maggie,” he said, gazing at his wife.

“Ice water?” Emilie asked.
