“You were tripping over yourself to get closer to her,” Sebastian said. “I’ve never seen you act like that around a woman before.”

“I like her,” I admitted.

“There must be more to it,” Diego said.

“Yeah, especially after that whole business when you asked how I knew Gianna was my mate,” Sebastian added.

Ah, that was a stupid move. Sebastian wouldn’t let that go. “So what if there is?”

Sebastian’s eyes widened. “Is it true then? She’s the one?”

I groaned and ran a hand through my hair. “Yes.” I exhaled. “My dragon told me she was my mate the first night we met. I didn’t believe it, I refused to, until recently. But now there’s no doubt that it’s true.”

“That’s great,” Sebastian declared with a wide grin and propped his arm along the back of the couch.

“Congrats, man,” Diego added.

“There’s nothing to congratulate me about. And don’t say anything—especially not to your partners.”

“Why not?” Sebastian asked in a wary tone.

“Because I haven’t told Zoe.”

They both pinned a why-the-hell-not stare on me.

“It would be soul-deep suicide,” I added. “Because she’s not interested in a relationship. And I’m terrified that even though she’s my mate, it will blow up in my face.”

“Man, you just need to put yourself out there.” Diego clapped as if it was simple as that. “Even if it means you get kicked in the nuts—figuratively or literally.”

“Another dating gem from Diego,” Sebastian teased and turned to me. “Have I told you how he should have a call-in show, Dating Dos and Don’ts with Diego?”

“No.” I laughed. “What’s that all about?”

“His crappy relationship advice,” Sebastian muttered.

“Oh, you think you can do better, Mr. Creates-a-Scene-in-His-Mate’s-Club-so-she-tosses-him-on-his-furry-ass.”

“A five-year-old can give better advice than ‘let yourself get kicked in the balls,’” Sebastian said.

Life with my roommates was never dull.

I gestured to Sebastian with a give-it-to-me motion. “Come on. I’m at a loss.”

“Okay,” he said. “We all know that Gianna was thelastwoman on earth looking for a relationship, but somehow I got her.”

“This is quite a mystery. How did you do it?” I nudged.

He cocked his head and looked up to the left. “Actually, I have no freakin’ idea.”

I groaned and dropped my head back. “Worst advice ever.” I turned to Diego. “Don’t ever book him on your dating show,” I snarked.

Diego laughed.

“Wait, I thought of something,” Sebastian said. “I was there for Gianna. So many people let her down in her life. I had to show her I was the real deal and not just another dude who only wanted to sleep with her. And I tried not to crowd her, despite how much I wanted to see her. I had to give her space.”

Would that work? It was something to think about.

“Don’t hold off on telling her she’s your mate. Because then she might think you’ve been deceiving her.” Sebastian’s lips turned downward. “That was one of my mistakes.”
