“It sounds dark.” She arched her brows. “And it sounds like more than a dream.”
Words failed to form, as if my voice box had been zapped.
Several minutes later, I left without my pride, but at least my crotch hadn’t been attacked by a torture device. With a nervous laugh, I attempted to shake off the spooky vibes that clung to me after hearing Sadie’s ominous words.
At least, I had taken the step to groom down there again, not that I had plans for anyone to see the results anytime soon. I pictured Diego and his sexy bedroom eyes, but then shoved that image away. That would only complicate my time here.
I pulled out my phone and called Gianna. “Are you trying to kill me?”
She laughed. “That bad?”
“It was like I was thrown into a tank of sharks with freakin’ laser beams.”
“Easy, Dr. Evil,” she replied to my Austin Powers reference. “You got through it, right?”
“I most certainly did not.” I hoped my indignant tone masked my sheepishness. My bruised and burned ego didn’t agree.
“Seriously?” Gianna asked.
I pursed my lips before admitting, “I made it through the armpits, but gave up at bikini line.”
“Come down to the club tonight, but don’t drive. I’ll make you something potent so you don’t feel a thing.”
Best suggestion I’d heard since I arrived in town. Besides, I could use one before explaining to Gianna all that had happened since last night.
Maybe she should make that drink a double.

When I went downstairs that afternoon, Sebastian and Lucas were hanging out in the living room both absorbed in their screens. Sebastian stared at his laptop, and Lucas at his phone.
“Hey, have you seen Nova?” I asked in a forced nonchalant tone while I brewed coffee that I’d spike with some B positive blood.
Sebastian glanced up. “She left this morning to run some errands.”
“I think she’s back now,” Lucas added. “Why?”
Ignoring him, I asked, “How did she seem?”
“Fine, I guess.” Lucas cocked a brow and flashed a knowing grin. “Once again, why?”
I ran a hand over my jaw. “I might have startled her last night.”
“Again?” both said almost simultaneously.
I blew out a harsh breath. “Not intentionally. I’d just come in from work and plopped on the couch. She came into the kitchen to get some water. When she saw me in the dark, she dropped the glass.”
Lucas chuckled. “That’s so you to lurk in the shadows.”
I pointed to my eyes. “One of the perks is stellar night vision.” I bent down to see if light reflected on any pieces of glass I missed. “Watch out for broken glass in here. I swept it up, but you know how sneaky those shards can be.”
“You weren’t your sullen-ass self, were you?” Sebastian asked with a wary expression.
“No,” I protested. “I was friendly. We watched a movie.”
Sebastian narrowed his gaze. “You?And her?”
I rolled one shoulder. “Yeah. What’s the big deal?”
