Dagan offered a predator’s smile, bared teeth, no
humor.
“I share, you share?”
“Something like that.”
“I want to find his body and bring him back.”
Yeah, she’d figured. But hearing him say it made the
situation very sticky. “So you can find not just the one
who wielded the knife but the one who set the plan in
motion.”
“Great minds think alike,” he murmured, the words
heavy with sarcasm.
There you go. Proof positive that what he wanted and
what she’d been assigned to achieve didn’t mesh so good.
“So, let’s say you succeed, let’s say you bring him back
and he fingers the ones behind the plan. What then?”
“Then—” he shrugged “—I kill them all. A quick
strike.”
“Even if it pisses off their allies? Even if you throw
the Underworld into chaos? Even if your vengeance ultimately costs hundreds of thousand of human lives?
