feel like I wanted to rip the heart and darksoul out of
the worthless human who got to lie beside you at night.
Except he wouldn’t have a darksoul. He’d be all shiny
and bright.”
The way he was looking at her made her shudder.

“But you left me.” Like everyone else.

tone was savage.
“I don’t even know you,” she whispered, completely
at a loss to understand the feelings churning inside her.

fisted both hands on the mattress, her mother’s pendant
still hanging around his neck, swaying forward, then
back. His pupils were dilated; there was only a thin rim
of gray around the endless dark depths. “Dream
much?”
She sucked in a sharp breath. He offered a feral,
knowing smile, white teeth, zero warmth.
“I know you hate chocolate.”

“Tell me,” he whispered, but she pressed her lips together and said nothing, too confused to even know
