Naamah looked back and forth between the two of
them. “The girl is nothing to you,” she said to Dagan.
“Nothing. A mere human.” She turned her gaze to
Roxy. “Tell me where you left her.”
Left her? Damn. Understanding dawned. They
weren’t here for Dagan. And they weren’t here for her.
They really were here for “the girl.” They were
here forDana.
She had no idea if Dagan knew what was going on.
His expression was ruthlessly neutral and he kept any
further questions to himself, probably saving them up
like pennies in a jar.
But Roxy had pretty much forced the puzzle
pieces together till they clicked. The genie knew
about Marin, and she knew about Dana. In that
instant, Roxy was damned glad she’d anticipated
trouble—not that she’d known exactly what form
that trouble would take—and asked Calliope to get
the kid and her mom to a safe house. Which explained why the fire genies couldn’t find her.
Because Dana wasn’t where they expected her to be,
and Calliope was way too savvy to leave a trail of
