“You don’t want to know.” He gave her a little shove
as they reached the corner of the house. “Go.”
She went, darting around the corner and sprinting
along the wooden boards, only to skid to a stop halfway
across the wide porch.
Yeah, he was right. Shedidn’twant to know, but it
was too late for that. Her gut clenched.
Perched on the porch rail, toes curled so long black
talons bit into the soft cedar, was a creature both lovely
and grotesque. Her skin had the smooth, supple look
of expensive leather, a deep burgundy red, the color of
embers dancing against blackest night. She squatted on
the rail, powerful thighs flexed, short black skirt hiked
as high as it would go, stopping just short of baring her
hoo-hah for the world to see. Black and sleek, her hair
cascaded in a straight curtain over her shoulders. Her
features were small and fine, and her smile bared
pointed, white teeth, perfectly formed. Perfectly
deadly.
From the darkness and shadow behind her emerged
more of her kind, equally lovely, equally frightful. And
they were all looking at Roxy.
