I squared up to him. “Why don’t you go findJules, and have a little fun?”

“You know, Carter here is right. Ishouldgo check on my girlfriend, make sure she’s not getting herself into any trouble.” He practically snarled through his slightly slurred words. “But he’ll dance with you. Won’t you, Carter?” He shoved the girl into my arms roughly before storming off like a petulant child.

I righted the girl, making sure she wasn’t going to fall over before I let go. “Sorry about that. He’s involved.” I added quickly. “And so am I.”

A tart little voice sounded from behind me. “You’re involved, huh?” Sloane came around my side.

Just great.“Maybe I am,” I muttered, heading for the bar.

Sloane cocked her head and promptly blocked my path. “With whom?” She asked sweetly.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I dodged around her.

Sloane followed after me, not letting up. “Hmm, for some reason, I’m not finding that particularly convincing.”

“Did she say something?” I finally stopped and asked, shouting over the music.

“I don’t know. Do you want her to have said something?” Sloane grinned, ineffectively hiding her smirk behind her drink. “Oh, this is too much fun! You’ve both got itbad. You finally kissed her, didn’t you?” Sloane sang, and I pursed my lips and said nothing, realizing Sara hadn’t said a damn thing to Sloane.

Good. I wanted Sara all to myself for a little bit. “Don’t you guys talk about these things?” I asked, starting for the bar again.

“She’ll tell me when she’s ready, and I’m not going to push her. Not when she looks happier than she’s looked all year.” Sloane nodded to Sara, who was already coming back from the bathroom.

Sara did look happy. She really did,she had a glow. I smirked, knowingIdid that—me and my little pink pony friend.

“You kissed.” Sloane decided rather matter-of-factly.

I rolled my eyes, as if kissing even covered what I’d done to Sara last night. “Maybe we did.” I shrugged.

Sloane narrowed her eyes. “Just do me a favor, Kensington.” She lowered her voice to a menacing whisper. “Don’t fuck it up this time.”

“I don’t plan on it.” I gritted, kind of loving how protective Sara’s friends were.

“Do you have a plan at all?” Sloane asked pointedly. “You know what they say about a man without a plan.”

“I’m working on it.” I gave her a sarcastic smile. “Okay?”

“I guess we’ll see, won’t we?” Sloane shot me a menacing look.

“What are you two talking about?” Sara came up, rosy-cheeked, her ponytail swishing behind her.

Sloane tilted her head at me and said sweetly, “We’re talking about what a good planner Carter is.”

“Huh?” Sara grabbed Sloane’s pink drink out of her hand, taking a big sip.

Cade appeared and slung his arm around Sloane’s shoulders. “Wanna dance, blondie?”

Sloane rolled her eyes. “No.”

“You owe me.” Cade grinned.

“May I remind you that your DD-ing, is becauseyouoweme.” Sloane said, staring down her nose at Cade, even though he was so much taller than her, even with her height and her heels.

Cade put his hands up. “Fine, if you don’t think you can handle all this.”

“Please.” Sloane grabbed Cade by the tie and dragged him behind her. “Let’s see if you can keep up, Blackthorn.” Cade raised his brows in surprised victory while he trailed behind Sloane’s lion’s mane of blonde hair.
