“No, not really, but I should probably get up and moving so I can get her.”
“We,” he says, brushing the hair out of my face. “The answer you were looking for was we should get up and moving sowecan get her.”
“We,” I breathe, loving the sound of it.
“As much as I loved having you alone—all night long—I gotta admit I miss that little girl and her smells and sounds.”
“Admit it, she’s got you wrapped around your finger.” I bring his hand to join mine and press a kiss to his knuckles.
“Abso-fucking-lutely, I am. Just like I am with her mama.”
We finally got up and moving twenty minutes later. To keep from any other delays occurring, we each took a quick blast through the shower to wash off the smell of sex. Not that I minded his scent coating my skin, but if we’re going to keep this to ourselves, it’s probably best not to show up smelling like Rhy, especially when we were both supposed to be with other people last night, not together.
Since Gabby’s car seat base is in my car, I opted to drive. Even though I told Rhy I could go alone, he said he wanted to join. We stopped for coffee on the way because as we finally got out of bed, the exhaustion actually fucking hit me. I asked him three times before we left to make sure that I wasn’t walking funny because my muscles are feeling my workout today.
“Good choice with the idea to stop for coffee this morning.” I bring my cup to my lips as we walk up to my brother’s front door. Rhyland carries a tray with his coffee, along with two for Hollieand Ollie as another way to say thank you for watching Gabby last night.
Rhyland leans down and whispers in my ear, “You have no idea how bad I want to kiss you right now.”
My cheeks flush, and I swallow down the lust. “We’ll get in and get out.”
“That’s what she said.”
We’re both giggling when the front door opens, revealing my brother looking a little rough. His hair is in more disarray than usual. God, I hope Gabby didn’t keep them up all night.
“What are you doing here?” my brother asks.
“Umm, picking up my daughter?” Is he drunk or still half-asleep or something?
“Yeah, obviously.” He shakes his head and runs a hand through his messy hair. “I was more so talking to the man next to you.” He turns his attention to Rhyland. “I just wasn’t expecting you both together.”
Fuck, maybe we shouldn’t have come together. Is that so weird for the two of us together? Can he tell that I’ve had his dick inside me? I’m pretty sure that we don’t have a blinking sign over our head saying we recently boned each other. Just to make sure life wasn’t throwing us a curveball, I look above us to double-check. I breathe a sigh of relief when I realize we’re in the clear.
“Can’t a man just want to see his best friend?” Rhy says on the fly, and I smile. “I mean, if you don’t want these coffees I brought you guys, then I’ll just leave.”
“Whoa, whoa, whoa.” My brother lunges forward, and I giggle. “No need to talk crazy. It just caught me off guard.”
How would my brother, either of them, react to learning that Rhyland and I are together? How would that talk go if I just shouted it from the rooftops right now? Okay, maybe not the best plan when there is hot coffee in the picture.
Now that coffee has entered the chat, Ollie drops his questions. He ushers us into the living room after taking his coffee, and I freeze.
I find Hollie sitting on the couch, adjusting her shirt.Oh, for fuck’s sake.Any idiot could put two and two together—my brother’s hair a mess and Hollie’s disheveled clothes.
“Seriously?” I screech, but I’m also laughing. “With my kid in the house? You’re gross.”
“Keep your pants on, sis.”
“You keepyourpants on, bro,” I sass back and mentally high-five myself for my brother leaving such a great opening for me to respond like that. Rhyland chuckles but hides his smile behind his coffee cup.
“Where’s my daughter before you scar her for life?”
“Hey, you’re the one who’s always asking for a niece or nephew. I’m just trying to give you your wish.”
“Alright, alright.” Hollie stands, ready to play referee. “Let’s put the boxing gloves away. It’s just too early for that.” Everyone glances over at Rhyland, and he just rolls his eyes.Sorry, babe, I don’t think anyone’s going to let that go anytime soon.
“Well, I come bearing gifts as a thank-you for watching Gabby.” I step up to Rhyland and lock eyes with him and smile, sharing a secret no one else knows as I grab the fourth coffee from the tray and hold it out.
“Ahh,” Hollie groans happily. “Have I told you that you’re my favorite person ever?”
