She’d come a long way from her initial fear of guns, and come so far, she’d just bought her first handgun. It was an exciting moment. But she didn’t have any one she could tell. Maybe she would call Chyna tomorrow.

She was quite proud of herself.

If only Travis could see me now.

CHAPTER7

“It’stime for show and tell,” Ellen said, as she motioned to the children to come around into the circle on the floor that would be their show and tell space.

The children found their spots on the A B C rug in the center of the room, which was their show and tell space, among other things. Once they were all seated, each child on a letter, she asked who wanted to go first.

Three children raised their hands. Each had brought a toy to show the others.

Their sharing time started out well and Ellen relaxed, enjoying the easy way the children listened to each other and the excitement in each child’s voice as they took a turn.

When it was Scotty’s turn, he stood up in the middle of the rug and faced most of the class. He didn’t bring anything to show, so he would tell.

“My daddy used to go far away to fight bad guys who hurt people,” he said. “He was a Navy SEAL. Now he’s a protector and we live here.”

Ellen thought he was done but instead of sitting down, he continued.

“My mommy got sick and had to go to heaven. But she fought really hard to stay here. She liked it when I brought her purple flowers. I hope there are flowers in heaven. Especially purple ones.”

“I’ll bet there are,” Ellen said. “Especially purple ones.”

The last little boy, Harley, was given his turn. He hadn’t brought a toy and didn’t have anything to say but then at the last minute he changed his mind and stood up quick. “My mommy’s boyfriend has a dingdong this big!” His hands emphasized the size of his mommy’s boyfriend’s penis.

Ellen gasped.

The class erupted into chaos.

Little boys laughed and shouted.

“No way!” one boy shouted.

“Yes, he does,” Harley shouted back.

“My daddy’s is big too!” another boy shouted.

One little girl said, “What’s a dingdong?”

Little girls hid behind their hands and giggled. Others looked puzzled.

“I’ll show you,” Harley said, starting to pull his pants down.

“Stop!” Ellen shouted. “Everyone freeze!”

All the children knew what freeze meant as many had played freeze tag before.

“Leave your clothes on,” she said sternly.

Her shout had brought the principal who was not far away, down the hallway. Mr. Campbell stepped into the room just as she told the children to leave their clothes on.

“What’s going on here?” he asked. “I hope you children are behaving and not giving Miss Young a hard time.”

The children were instantly quiet and sitting still.

He gestured to Ellen to come over to the doorway.
