“Good thing I’m not polite company,” I purr, tilting my head. “Care to share?”

He steps even closer until there’s barely an inch of space between us. His gaze locks on mine, and I feel as though I can’t breathe. His hand brushes my arm, and it begins to tingle with recognition.

“Well, for starters, I’ve got a way with…my hands. And I’m thinkin’ you might be the kind that likes to be handled gently… at first.”

“And what happens after ‘at first’?”

His smile turns downright sinful. “That depends on how loud you’re willin’ to get.”

My breath hitches, and my core floods with heat. I’m completely at a loss for words.

Damn it, if this man’s flirting doesn’t make me want to see just how far he’s willing to go.

“You’re trouble,” I say finally, my voice a little breathless.

“You have no idea,” he says, his gaze dropping briefly to my lips before meeting my eyes again. “But if you’re brave enough to find out, I’m not goin’ anywhere.”

“Why don’t you buy me a drink, and I’ll set us up a game of pool?”

My daddy taught me how to play pool when I was six years old. I really hope Collin isn’t a sore loser.

He chuckles lowly and nods. He doesn’t ask for my drink order; he just walks toward the bar. I turn around to my friends, who are all holding up napkins on which they’ve scrawled the number ten on all of them.

Okay, so they’re giving me scores as though we’re in the Olympics?

I roll my eyes and giggle as I go over to the pool table. I’m beyond my comfort zone here, but I’ve never had anything feel so right as this moment does.

Chapter Two

Wade

Why did I tell this gorgeous woman the wrong name?

Why am I forcing this fake accent?

She’s incredible, and I’ve started everything with lies.

It doesn’t matter, though; tomorrow, I go back to Hicks Creek, and this will just be one last moment before I have to become a responsible adult.

“I sure didn’t have getting my ass kicked by a hot woman on my bingo card for today,” I drawl with a low chuckle.

She glances up at me sultrily as she’s bent over the pool table, lining up her shot. She’s practically falling out of that body-hugging dress, and I’m not complaining at all.

She’s the sexiest woman I’ve ever seen.

My pants tighten at the thought of her bent over like that for me. I need to blow off steam. Tonight is the last night I’ll be able to be wild and carefree.

Two days ago, I received a phone call from a lawyer here in Texas who informed me that I have a four-year-old son being raised by his grandma. His mother, Kara, took off when he was only a few months old but left my name and information with her mother. The grandma died, his mother is unreachable, and now, I’m in Texas to pick up my son, who doesn’t even know me.

I need to blow off a lot of steam.

The click of the pool ball hitting its target echoes through the bar as I watch her straighten up, a satisfied smirk playing on her lips. She turns to me, eyes glinting mischievously.

“Your turn, cowboy,” she teases, gesturing to the pool cue in my hand.

“I have a better idea,” I tell her as I take the stick out of her hand. “We’ve been flirting for a few hours, getting to know each other, and it’s getting late. What do you say we go someplace a little quieter?”

She cocks an eyebrow at me before smiling slyly.
