His head bobs up and down like crazy. “Yeah, and she yelled at him to get out of her office.”
Perfect. As disgusting as the thought is, I know when he calls her that nickname, they always end up in their bedroom for hours with Mrs. Roberts serving dinner and giving the littler kids their baths. I shake my head. “Don’t worry about it. You can hang out in here.”
His arms fall to his sides, and he drags the old beanbag chair from the corner to sit in front of my TV. He jumps in like the floppy cushion is a pool, laughing and grabbing for thecontrollers to the game console I haven’t used in years but keep for him. Since we’re the only boys in the family, he wants to be in here any time he can. Which is mostly annoying but also a little cool too. I like that he looks up to me.
Our sister between us only cares about her phone and her friends, while our two youngest sisters play with dolls and stuffed animals, which he hates.
Plus, later on he’ll tell our parents he was with me so it’s less likely my father will check the cameras or with the guards to see if I was gone.
Which I need to be. After Kennedy missed two days of class and then showed up today with a bruise on her perfect face, I have to find out who hurt her so I can end him.
It will be my first murder, which Dad says you never can come back from.
But I don’t want to come back. I will do whatever it takes to protect my girl.
Even if that means someone will die at my hands.
The End
