“Harper, you are my best friend. I want you to be my best friend for life. I’ve never been very good at thinking ahead, but when I look at my future, my next five years, ten, fifty—all I see is you.”

Tears spilled down my cheeks because of course they did, but they came from a place of pure happiness. My smile was probably visible from space.

“What do you say? Will you marry me, Harps?”

I nodded, kneeling down with him as he slipped the ring on my finger. “Yes, I will marry you, Sam.”

Blubbered a little, but I got the words out.

He kissed me through my tears, a hundred unspoken words wrapped up in his tender caress. Turning me, he adjusted us so we sat in the sand, snuggled up with his arms around me as I leaned against his chest, the best chaise lounge on the planet.

I couldn’t stop sneaking glances at that beautiful ring, reminding myself this was all real, and I would really get to marry him. We breathed in time with the gentle waves as they lapped the beach just feet from our toes.

At my ear, he said, “Of all the places I’ve been, being by your side is the one I love most.”

My sweet, romantic man.

“So stay.”
