Delbert, for his part, grinned like an adoring schoolboy infatuated with the most beautiful girl in class.“Perfect. I’ll ring your room tomorrow and we’ll set up plans.”
Donna smothered a grin. Yes, there was definitely something going on between those two.
Cassandra tucked her hand in the crook of Ted’s arm.“Well, we’ll let you all get back to your festival. We were just getting ready to head back to the hotel.”
Donna watched as Cassandra and Ted disappeared into the crowd. Or, more to the truth, she watched Delbert watch them and smothered yet another grin.
“Interesting that Ted knew my mother,”Donna remarked.
“It is, isn’t it? Small world here in Moonbeam,”Barry said.
“It’s not like she ever stayed at The Cabot or anything. But I guess they crossed paths sometime.”Donna frowned.“But I don’t remember him being here. I’m not sure I’ve ever met him before.”
“He and his brother ran The Cabot until Ted moved away suddenly and left his brother to manage the day-to-day business of the hotel,”Delbert said.“I heard he was still involved on the financial side, though, and did everything he could to try and keep the hotel open.”
“She’s open now, and she’s lovely,”Barry said.“I’m so glad you were able to buy her and restore her.”
“Me, too. Me, too.”Once again Delbert stared off in the direction Cassandra had headed, and Donna bit her lip to keep from grinning.
Chapter 28
Only four more days to the wedding, and Donna couldn’t wait. She and Barry went to The Cabot to wrap up some last-minute details. Delbert waved to them from across the room when they entered, and they hurried over to him.
“There you two are. I hear everything is in order for your wedding. Evelyn was just here. You just missed her.”
“She’s a wiz at planning events. I’m lucky she helped so much with the wedding. I never could have pulled it off so quickly without her. I’m sure it’s all going to be lovely and go off with a hitch.”
“And I already have her booked to plan a big Christmas bash this holiday season here at The Cabot. She’s going to be in charge of decorating the hotel, too,”Delbert said as he set a file down on the reception desk.
“I don’t know how she finds time to do everything she does. These events and then being the chef at the cafe. She seems happy though.”Actually, her sister amazed her these days. All that she did. What she’d accomplished. How far she’d come since hearing that her husband was divorcing her.
“She does. She’s a lovely lady,”Delbert agreed.“So I meant to tell you. I had RSVP’d to your wedding invitation thinking I was going to bring this woman I date sometimes socially. But that didn’t work out. It will just be me.”
Donna smiled, a plan hatching quickly in her mind.“Why don’t you ask Cassandra if she’d like to come with you? She might enjoy seeing a wedding at the hotel after all this time.”
Del’s eyes lit up at her suggestion.“Well…maybe I could do that.”
“It’s a great idea.”Barry nodded.“Ask her.”
“And why don’t you see if her uncle wants to come, too. I’d hate for him to just sit alone in his room. We’d love to have both of them, wouldn’t we, Barry?”
“Of course.”
“I’ll ask her then. You’re right, she might enjoy seeing a wedding here at the hotel. It’s been a long time since there’s been one here. I’m hoping to hire someone as a wedding planner for the hotel so we can have many more in the future.”He grinned.“And don’t worry, I know I can’t steal Evelyn away from you, as much as I’d love to.”
Just then Cassandra and Ted came walking through the lobby. Donna waved them over.“Perfect timing.”
Cassandra greeted them with a warm, friendly smile.“We’ve just been to see Uncle Ted’s new suite at Sunrise Village. He has a penthouse room with a view of the harbor. It’s just lovely.”
“I think it will work out perfectly. A two-bedroom with a small office. And a nice kitchen, not that I cook much.”Ted grinned.“I’m hoping their dining room has good food, but I know there are lots of wonderful places to eat here in Moonbeam.”
“I’m not sure where Mother’s room is at Sunrise Village. She’s been a bit quiet on the details. She hired a company to move her things and set up her place. We offered to help after the wedding, but—”She stopped, not wanted to air more family business.“I’m sure it will all work out fine for her.”
She looked at Del and nodded, encouraging him to ask Cassandra.
Delbert stepped up next to Cassandra.“Could I speak to you for a moment?”
“Of course,”Cassandra answered.
