She could do this. Pull off a wedding—she was gettingmarried—in six weeks. She could. Evelyn would help. And so would Olivia. The diamond sparkled on her hand and caught her attention again. She sure had a lot to tell the Parker women.
Tomorrow. She’d tell them tomorrow. Tonight it was just Barry and her and a magical evening together.
Chapter 7
Donna walked into the kitchen of the cafe the next morning after the breakfast rush had died down. Evelyn and Olivia were sitting at a table sorting through invoices.
Evelyn looked up and smiled.“Morning, Donna. Grab a cup of coffee and join us.”
She walked over, grabbed a mug, and returned with her coffee, settling into a chair across from Evelyn and Olivia. She carefully kept her left hand tucked under the table.
Olivia looked over at her and frowned.“You okay, Mom?”
“Yes, I’m fine.”
“You look a bit flushed.”
“I do?”She automatically reached up to push her hair away from her face.
…with her left hand.
“Mom!”Olivia jumped up and raced around the table and grabbed her hand.“What is this?”
“Donna?”Evelyn’s eyes widened.
“This is what I was coming to tell you two. Barry asked me to marry him.”
“And you said yes!”Olivia threw her arms around her and hugged her tightly.“I’m so happy for you.”
Evelyn got up and came around and took her hand, looking at the ring.“It’s beautiful, Donna. Just lovely. And I’m very happy for you two.”
“Thanks.”She sat with a silly grin resting on her face as Olivia and Evelyn slipped back into their chairs.
“Tell me everything. When? Where?”Olivia leaned forward.
“We went to dinner at The Cabot. He reserved a private dining room. He asked me there. It was all so very romantic.”Terribly romantic. Every detail was still etched clearly in her mind.
“And when are you planning on getting married?”
Donna gave them a rueful grin.“Um…in six weeks?”
“Really?”Olivia’s mouth fell open.
“At the pavilion at The Cabot.”
“Oh, Mom. That will be a lovely place to get married.”Olivia jumped up and grabbed a pad of paper.“Okay. You know me. The ultimate list maker. Let’s start a list of everything that needs to be done.”
“A dress, invitations, flowers, a caterer…”Evelyn started counting on her fingers.
“Evie, do you think you could do the food? I mean, and beinmy wedding?”Suddenly the enormity of all she was asking her family to do in such a short time swept over her.
“Oh, yes. I can make it work. Melody Tanner will help us. This is great.”
She turned to Olivia.“And you’ll be in my wedding, too?”
“Of course, Mom.”
“I just want a small wedding. Family and a few close friends. I was thinking of making it kind of vintage-y. Especially since it’s at The Cabot.”
