“How? You’ll be out of work while you heal.”
He grinned. “Have you forgotten what I told you? I made good money in the SEALs and invested. I did well. Hawken’s paid me a fuckton more, and I invested most of that, too.”
Is he rich?“How much is a fuckton?”
“A lot.” He shrugged.
“So when you asked me all those questions about what I’d do if money wasn’t an issue?”
“I wanted to know if you’d be open to letting me support you.”
“Because you have a fuckton of money. So, you’re rich?” I didn’t care about the money, but he was being so mysterious about it I couldn’t help but ask.
“Yes.”
“Like, Blake rich?” Blake was rich enough that she hadn’t batted an eye when she made a very generous donation to the hospital, ensuring everyone from SSI would have a private room.
He tilted his head. “I don’t know. How rich is Blake?”
“Almost a billionaire. She’s the reason you won’t have a roommate while you’re here.”
“Really?” His eyes opened wide.
Blake inherited her fortune, but you’d never know she was rich. She was down to earth and didn’t flaunt her wealth. Even when she was making sizable donations to charities.Or the hospital.
“Yup. So?”
“I’m not a billionaire, but I have a couple dozen million in investments.”
My jaw dropped, but a knock interrupted us before I could ask the rest of my questions.
“Come in,” he called out.
“Hey, how are you feeling?” his friend asked.
“Alive and juiced up.”
Kroupa laughed. “Enjoy it while you can. How bad is it?”
“I’ll need a few weeks of light duty.” Nathan winked at me. “But I’ll make a full recovery.”
My face warmed as color rushed to my cheeks.
“Ashley, can I have a minute with Nathan?”
“Of course.” When I stood, Nathan pulled me back down for a kiss. Blushing, I said, I’ll be right outside.”
Chapter 61
Nathan
“So, I take it you two figured out your shit?” Kroup asked with a knowing smirk.
“I’m marrying that woman.” My stupidly big smile pulled at my scar. I’d spent the last year dreaming about Ashley, missing a future we never got to explore. No way was I letting her out of my grasp a second time.
“Does she know?” Kroup laughed.
I laughed with him. “Yeah, she even agreed.”
