“No. Travis had some delivered yesterday after you left.” She shrugs. “I tossed them.”

“You tossed them? You didn’t eat them?”

“No.” She pulls the bag from the can and ties it up. “I didn’t want his I’m-sorry-I’m-a-dick donuts. He can man up and give me a real apology if he wants my forgiveness.”

“I’m so confused. What happened?” It’s not like Ellie to throw away perfectly good donuts, no matter what the reason is.

“Nothing happened. He got all weird on me and ghosted me. We had plans last week, and he blew me off. No text or call. I haven’t heard a peep from him since, and then these donuts show up at my door.FromTravis, Happy V-Day.Didn’t even have the balls to bring them himself.”

“That’s shitty he stood you up, but maybe something happened? With the band or something?”

“Doubtful. He just quit responding altogether. Radio silence.”

“I’m sorry. Do you want me to talk to Penn? Maybe he knows what’s going on.”

She makes a horrified face. “God, no. It’s not a big deal. We weren’t dating or anything, but being blown off sucks. A simple text message would have sufficed.”

I nod. Ellie is the most easy-going person to hang out with. She isn’t needy or demanding. She truly just wants to have a good time.

“Anyway, how was your night?” She hops up on a barstool, grinning wide. “You guys bang?”

“What? No!”

“Then what’s with your face?”

I touch my cheeks. “What do you mean?”

“You have orgasm glow.”

Is that actually a thing? I always thought it was just a result of blood pressure from strenuous activity.

“Well, we didn’t do that, but we did other stuff.” I decide to give her the rundown without going into too much detail.

“Well, you’re right at home plate now. He just needs to slide in.”

I laugh. “Stop!”

“What? I honestly don’t know how you’ve held out this long.”

“It’s been two months.”

She blinks at me. “That is literally forever.”

I laugh and sit down on the couch. She follows me.

“He got me this,” I say, holding up the cutest teddy bear I’ve ever seen. I’ve already thought of all the accessories I’m going to crochet for him. “Oh, and flowers andMilk Duds.”

“Oh, he’s good.”

“You don’t think it’s too much?”

“Do you?”

“I don’t know. I like him, but what happens when I leave? Or when he does?” My chest aches at the thought.

“I don’t know, babe. Take it day by day. I’m proud of you for finally doing something that makes you happy. Don’t start overthinking it now. Just have fun.”

“You’re right.”
