“Kidding. Kind of. Let me know if I can give you any more advice.” She blows me a kiss before sashaying from my room.
I face my bed and the massive mess I’ve made. I’ll have to clean up later.
I settle on a skirt, of course. It’s tan and flowy and hits mid-thigh and goes well with my black bodysuit. I pull on some sheer tights underneath and slip my feet into simple black booties.
“So pretty!” Ellie says when I step into the living room.
I do a little spin for her, causing my skirt to flare up.
“Did you take my advice on underwear or…”
I level her with a flat expression, and she rolls her eyes.
“Guess not. I’m going to pretend I’m not here all night, just in case.”
“Oh my God, stop! It’s our first date.”
“You never know.” She plants a kiss on my cheek and heads toward her room. “Text me if it’s horrible and I need to bail you out. I’m feeling a nasty virus coming on.” She coughs dramatically before disappearing down the hallway.
I laugh to myself, putting my phone and credit card into my purse as a knock hits the door. Nervous butterfliestake off in my stomach. I pull it open and step back, allowing Penn to come in.
“Hey,” I say. “I just need to get my coat.”
“Holy shit,” he breathes out.
I spin around. “What?”
His eyes roam all over my body, pure desire pouring from his gaze, and my whole body lights up. “You look incredible. Fuck, those skirts are going to kill me.” A deep groan spills from his chest; the sound has my thighs clenching.
I clear my throat. “Thanks?” I’m not sure why it comes out like a question, but he simply winks at me. I shrug my coat on, taking a minute to check him out as I do. He’s wearing dark jeans—no rips this time—black Converse, a dark gray shirt under a black jacket, and…a hat, a backward hat.
Oh, I like that.
He wears casual so well. I’m used to button-downs and sweater vest guys, which there’s nothing wrong with, but I never thought I’d be attracted to something so different.
When my eyes meet his, he gives me a knowing smirk. “You done?”
I nod sheepishly.
“Let’s go.” He takes my hand and leads me to his truck.
“You know that’s not a parking spot, right? There’s a whole garage.” I wave a hand in the direction of the building’s private garage.
He walks me around the truck and opens my door. “I know.”
I climb in. He takes another glance at my skirt, mumbling something under his breath before slamming my door.
“Where are we going?”
“You’ll see.”
I huff, making him chuckle.
During the short drive, he fills me in on what’sbeen going on with the band since their last show. They’ve gained hundreds of new followers, and a few labels have reached out to them.
“Some probably aren’t legit, but Tanner will be able to weed through them. He’s already lined up three more shows for this month, all paid gigs, which is nice.”
“That’s incredible,” I say.
