“We were never dating, and it wasn’t only that.”

It’s her turn to roll her eyes. “For all intents and purposes, you were a couple.”

I can’t argue with that because I agree, and I wasn’t the one who didn’t want the label. I would’ve happily slapped ‘taken’ on my forehead if I got to do the same to her, but she was still mine in every way that counted.

The label wouldn’t have changed the fact that Olivia needed to figure out her life. Maybe I was just a distraction. I wanted her to choose herself, but I won’t lie and say I didn’t want her to choose me, too.

My phone vibrates in my pocket, and I slide it out while Pacey pours us both some coffee. It’s the band group chat.

Tanner:

Change of plans. We’re leaving for PA in 6 days not 14.

“Fuck.”

“What’s wrong?”

“Apparently, I’m leaving in six days.”

Damn. Olivia’s graduation is next weekend.

“Oh,” Pacey says, and I can tell by her tone she’s bummed.Me too, sis.

My phone goes off again, and it’s Tanner’s new itinerary. Full of more shit we have to do before we go. Goddammit, it’s packed. He has a band meeting scheduled for noon, and it’s already eleven thirty.

Penn:

can we push the meeting back? I have shit to do.

By shit, I mean talk to Olivia. Not to mention, I’msupposed to be at the garage in a couple of hours, but Ray will understand.

Travis:

I vote to do that also. My eyes haven’t even been open for a whole minute.

Tanner:

Are you guys joking? We have important shit to do and less time to do it.

Travis:

can you live stream it? I’ll watch it later.

I almost laugh. I can picture Tanner’s face turning red while he reads that.

Tanner:

Do you guys even want to go on tour? Because you’re acting like this shit is an inconvenience to your otherwise boring fucking lives.

Dammit. He has a point, but fuck, I need an hour to see what’s going on in Olivia’s head. I was going to make her breakfast and beg her to talk to me. Now that she’s here, I don’t want to let her go again. Doing it the first time was one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do.

Penn:

I just need an hour. I’ll be there at 1

Travis:

I’d like at least 2-3 hours but whatever.
