I sighed. “There’s so much he doesn’t know.”
He held my hand the best he could in his current condition—flickering and unstable. We’d both risked a little too much and gone a little too far to watch my little prince and his mate in their first showdown. Make no mistake, if the two of them hadn’t figured it out so quickly, we’d have intervened, even if it meant my death, and us being lost.
Like he knew my thoughts—which didn’t he always—he said, “But we’d have been lost to the ether together.”
“True. Do you think?—”
He shook his head. “He’ll be terrified to leave the house if he realizes that anyone he meets can also suck him into their dream-life. Better that he comes to terms with the fact that there’s a goddess out there who will direct his wanderings.”
“He’s worried about Sky.”
Lee snorted. “As I worried about you. Don’t you remember how many times you swatted the back of my head when I initially expressed concern for you as my tether? He’ll grow to trust in his own abilities to protect, and in Sky, just as I did you. Don’t forget, unlike us, they’re not alone.”
For the first time since we’d returned from beyond the veil, a smile split my face. “Isn’t it wonderful, Lee? A wholeScooby-Doogroup. With a chosen family consisting of a clairvoyant, a psychic medium, and those friendly ghosts. Who knows what they’ll accomplish!”
He smiled softly. “And don’t forget you, my love. You had no one to guide you.” My grin fell, and he held up a hand. “I know you’re worried that Sky’s had so little training.”
“Good grief, Lee. He’s not even a novice. He didn’t know he had gifts. At least my mother began my initial training.”
He nodded gravely. “True. But he won’t ever be alone.”
We sat in a comfortable silence, and Lee let his physical manifestation fade, leaving only a faint outline. My poor husband needed rest.
“I think they’ll be okay, don’t you?” I asked again, needing a little more reassurance before he was unreachable to me while he recharged.
I felt the faint pressure of lips brush my cheek as his form dissipated. His thoughts echoed in my head. “I think together, that group will do things we never even dreamed of. Rest easy, my love. They’re going to be fine.”
“They will be. They’ll be so fine.”
Peering outfrom the pages of our tale, I squinted. “Reader, I’m talking to you now. My grandson, his mate, and the family they’re creating have so many adventures awaiting them. Things beyond their wildest imagination. You’ll come along for the ride, won’t you?”
“Did you just snort at me? I’ve walked between planes, spent years in the Dream-veil. I’m a High Priestess, you know? And my Lee, well, his spirit can travel across space with a mere thought—when he’s not drained. Don’t make us come over there!
“I see the boardwalk and a corn maze in the Willowhope gang’s future, and Sky’s got his work cut out for him moving King along in their wide-awake relationship. It’s going to be fun—sort of—most of the time. And don’t we all just need a little fun right now?
