“Yes!” Rylee said.
“Well, let me grab my purse, and we’ll head out.” Before I could get to my office, I heard Hailey asking Titan if he wanted to come and that made me pause because I didn’t think that was a good idea.
“Only if your aunty says it ok.” I heard him say, and that made me smile because it showed me he wasn’t trying to intrude.
“It’ll be fine.” I heard Hailey whisper to him when I was coming back to the lobby with my purse on.
“What will be fine?” I asked, pretending I didn’t overhear their conversation.
“Can Mr. Titan come eat pizza with us?” Hailey asked, and she gave me her best pleading face. I had to hand it to the kid, she knew how to pout to get what she wanted. I used to think that only worked on my brothers, but apparently, I’m not immune either.
“I’m sure he has better things to do,” I said, hoping Titan would take the hint and agree.
“What could possibly be better than eating pizza with three of the prettiest girls in the world?” he asked playfully, and when I looked at him, he dropped his smile and pouted. He actually poked his bottom lip out and pouted and I wanted to bite his lip and suck it into my mouth. I immediately shook that thought off before it ran wild.
“Can he come please, Aunty? Mr. Tyin is our friend now.” Rylee had come from behind me and was now standing next to her sister. I was smiling because she said his name wrong, but it was too cute. I looked at Titan thinking he would correct her, but he just shrugged with a smile on his face. I looked back down, and she now had the same pleading expression on her face asher sister. Rylee asking for Titan to come with us shocked the hell out of me because she was extremely shy around strangers. So, for her to speak up confidentlyandcall Titan a friend was astounding. How could I really say no? I dropped my head back and let out a deep sigh.
“Well, if he wants to come—” I began.
“I’ll drive,” Titan said, cutting off my invite and quickly rushed over to the elevator and pressed the call button.
His eagerness made me laugh and I had to bite my lip to suppress it. Once we stepped on the elevator, I said a silent prayer for my strength because me and my pussy had to stay strong and not fall for Titan Browning. Titan looked at me as the elevator started to descend and I quickly looked down and pretended to pick a piece of lint off Rylee’s hair. I thought to myself as I whipped my Maserati Levante through the crowded streets of downtown Cincinnati. When the thought jumped into my head, I literally slammed on my brakes to stop that uninvited thought. The car jerked forward, and car horns blared from all around me. Bailey and the girls screamed in surprise, and I mumbled that I saw a cat in the street as an excuse for the sudden stop before I kept driving like I didn’t almost kill us.
Where thefuckdid that thought come from? I barely knew this woman and my mind was already thinking about having children with her. But wait, why didn’t the idea of starting a family with Bailey fill me with crippling anxiety like it should have? I was about to think more about that when Hailey’s voice interrupted my thoughts.
“Mr. Titan, you like jokes?”
“Of course I do, you got one for me?” I looked at her through my rearview mirror and laughed when she started giggling. I stared at her a little longer because I thought Hailey looked like Bailey when she laughed, or maybe my mind was playing tricks on me and was trying to imagine what our child would look like. I immediately shook my head and focused on the road in hopes to clear my head as soon as an image of Bailey’s stomach swollen with my child filled it. I gripped the steering wheel tighter andtook a deep breath before letting it out slowly because this kind of thinking was crazy. But the fact that it felt so right, made it even crazier.
“Are you ready for my joke, Mr. Titan?” Hailey’s voice cut through my thoughts again and I looked back at her face.
“I sure am, sweetheart! I’m ready to bust a gut from laughing.”
“Why didn’t the coffee bean go to the party?”
“I don’t know, why?” I was actually interested because I never heard this joke.
“Because he was grounded!” Hailey and Rylee screamed the punchline at me. I was silent for a second then I looked over at Bailey who was sitting in the passenger seat looking like she was trying to hold it together before I burst out laughing. I didn’t expect to laugh as hard as I did but it felt great. I think I laughed more today than I have in the last three years since my divorce. The four of us continued to laugh and talk until we arrived at the restaurant a few minutes later.
When I parked in front of the pizzeria, I jumped out and jogged around to the passenger side to help Bailey and the girls out of the car. I smiled when Rylee kept holding my hand as we walked to the entrance, and I opened the door for them to walk inside. After the hostess showed us to our booth we ordered pizza, chicken wings, and salad then she gave her nieces some money for a game card, and they ran off to play.
