“I tried. You deserve everything I can ever give you, and so much more. You’re the most amazing person I’ve ever met, Lucy. You’re a fantastic mother, a great businesswoman, a wonderful partner?—”
“I already said yes,” Lucy said, laughing. “You can stop buttering me up.”
“I’m just telling the truth.” Elliot wrapped his arm around her shoulders. “I love you, Lucy. I always will.”
“I love you, too.” She beamed at him, her heart so full she thought it would burst.
“Ga ga goo,” Dominic added proudly.
“And we love you, too,” Lucy replied.
“Come on.” Elliot turned them around and led the way back towards the B&B. “Let’s head inside.”
“And we can start thinking about the wedding,” Lucy added. “I’m thinking… a beach wedding. But not here. In Hawaii, maybe!”
“Anything you want,” Elliot said, hugging her close. “All I know is that we’ll need to spend at least a year looking at potential venues around the world — as a family.”
“That sounds perfect.”
As they strolled along the boardwalk, chatting about wedding possibilities and telling baby Dominic all about how he was going to be a ring bearer, Lucy was so happy she couldn’t stop smiling. A part of her even felt like her brother was still there, somewhere out over the endless ocean, smiling at his sister and his nephew and his best friend as they walked into a bright, beautiful future.
