My jaw clenches. "What about her?"

"Man, she's so hot," Barnesy grins lecherously. "Those legs, that ass...I'd love to?—"

"Tone it down," I growl, cutting him off. My fists ball at my sides.

Barnesy blinks, confused. "What? Just saying she's smokin'. Bet she's wild in bed."

Something snaps inside me. I stand, towering over him. "You need to shut your mouth and show some respect."

"Whoa, chill," Barnesy holds up his hands. "What's the problem, man?"

I lean in close, my voice low and dangerous. "My problem is how you talk about women. Cyn's a professional, not some conquest. She deserves better than your bullshit."

Evan watches, eyebrows raised. I realize I might've revealed too much, but I can't back down now.

"All women do," I continue. "Maybe if you treated them like people instead of objects, you wouldn't be striking out so often."

Barnesy's face reddens. "Hey, I get plenty?—"

"Yeah, and how many stick around?" I challenge. "Grow up, Barnesy. Learn some class."

He stumbles back, muttering curses. As he retreats, I sink back into my seat, heart pounding.

Evan leans in, his voice low. "So...Cyn, huh?"

I close my eyes, sighing. I’m so busted.

Chapter 11

Cyn

Istare blankly at Jordo's knee, my hands moving mechanically through the familiar exercises to keep his tendonitis at bay. I know I need to snap out of this and start paying more attention to what’s going on. But my mind is a thousand miles away, back in Vegas.

My phone buzzes, and I’m dying to sneak a peek.

I place an ice pack on his knee. “Just leave that on for ten minutes, and I’ll come back and check on you.” He gives me a thumbs up and immediately starts scrolling through his phone.

I walk over to my desk and sit down on my comfy chair. Standing all day while working can be really tough on the legs.

I quickly pull up my texts.

Garrett: Miss me yet?

Heat rises to my cheeks. I shouldn't respond. We can’t keep doing this. But my fingers are already typing.

Me: Who’s this?

Garrett: Ouch. I'm wounded.

Me: Good thing I'm a physical therapist.

Garrett: So, about that healing touch of yours...

My heart races. This is dangerous territory.

Me: Careful, Coach. That kind of talk could get us both in trouble.

Garrett: Worth it.
