All the things that I read about him before we were together, shocked me that players do this. A different girl every week, and rumors that even the players with girlfriends were fucking some groupies, so what the hell made me think I'd be any different for Trey? He’s a man, a man in the spotlight, a man it seems like every girl wants. He doesn't get to see me for weeks, so of course he'd go somewhere else for it. Someone that would be there for him.
Trey - Nothing happened. I danced with her, but that's it. I didn't fuck her, I didn't kiss her, she left with one of the other players. Please talk to me.
I lean back on the couch as I take the vodka from Calvin, and close my eyes as tears escape down my cheeks, I fell in love with the player, and he played me, he broke me.
***
I didn’t sleep at all last night. My phone kept vibrating over and over again. It was Trey, Derek, even Ariel tried her luck, but I drank a lot last night and was in no state to talk to anyone. I’ve ignored their calls this morning, too. I know that I have to talk to him sooner or later, and I will once I get some sleep. The whole flight, I stayed in the gallery, as my eyes looked terrible. The moment I kept telling myself that I'm stronger and I can move past this, I'd start crying all over again at how stupid I was.
Calvin and Finn stayed the night at my place, as Clavin said that he didn't want to leave me, and in the end, I was so happy that he stayed with me; comforted me when I needed it. He spoke to Trey twice last night, just telling him to give me the night, but Trey wanted to talk to me.
I had already booked my flight to LA for tomorrow, and I don't know what to do. Is this a conversation I want on the phone?Do I want to see him? I don't know what I want.
I take a deep breath and my phone rings again, and I see Derek's name flashing on the screen. My finger moves between the answer and decline button, hitting the green.
“Hello.”
“Sky, thank you for answering the phone.” Derek sounds relieved.
"Well, you keep calling. Is he with you?" I ask. I’m still not ready to talk to Trey. I'm not sure what I want to ask him, or if I want to listen to him tell me the same thing over and over again.
"No, he's not. Are you walking away?"
"I don't know what I'm doing. It's only going to get worse, isn't it?" My voice comes out quieter, worried.
"The start is going to be hard, but I promise that it'll all stop over time. Trey never slept with that girl. He didn't even want to go, but the team kept telling him it'll be fun. The girl started getting a little too friendly—"
“Friendly,” I cut him off. The video looked more than friendly.
“Sky, you don’t want him to tell anyone about you, so as far as the world knows, he's single, and he has to play that part. The moment she got too much, Trey moved away from her—”
“So, this is my fault because I don't want the world to know who I'm fucking?”
"I didn't say that, Sky. I'm just saying that even he tells them he's dating someone. All this will slowly fade away, or until he does, this will happen every night he's at the club."
I take a deep breath to calm myself as Derek tells me what world I’ve come into. “And what about the players that are dating or even married? That doesn’t stop them, does it?”
“Do you really believe that Trey’s like that?”
"I don't know what to believe. I'm finished talking.” I end the call, then throw my phone across the bed, and shake my head.
Maybe I need to finally talk to Trey and see what he has to say to me about this because, right now, all I can do is fight with myself about what's right and what isn't. I don't want to believe the press, and I’ve always believed Trey, so maybe I need to continue to believe him.
Chapter 14
Trey
I haven’t slept at all since the video went out, waiting for Sky to call me back, but she hasn’t yet. And as the days go on, I don’t think she will either. Derek said he spoke to her, and she’s angry. I don’t blame her.
I fucked up by dancing so close to that woman, but I still have to play the player part of my life. Otherwise, the press will pick up that I'm hiding something, and if they think I'm hiding, then things are going to be worse for me. They'll follow me every second of the day, waiting to find something, and I'm respecting Sky by keeping her out of the spotlight.
“Trey, get your fucking head out of the clouds, are you even looking at the plays?” Coach shouts at me. I look over at him and nod. “Then play like you have.”
“Sorry, coach.” I throw the ball, and run to the end of the court, ready to get the ball to shoot.
"If you weren't sleeping with every girl that comes into the club, you'd be able to focus more," Q says as he runs past me. He's a player on the team that has been around the clubs and slept with a lot of girls, but he finally found his girl and hasn't left her since. Now I have no idea if the rumors are true that he cheated on her, but I've learned that the press look around just to make us look bad sometimes. I'm learning from it now.
“Nah, man, that was a load of shit. I'm a one-woman man now—"
