“Penny?”

She looks toward me, but when I don’t say anything she tilts her head. Then she notices me holding my hands out and looks at them, finally seeing the ring that I’m holding.

“Liam?” Her eyes widen as she covers her mouth with her hands.

“Penny, I love you more than life itself. You are my best friend, and the person that I want to grow old with. Will you do me the honor of spending the rest of your life with me?”

She’s frozen with her hands covering her mouth, and silent for what seems like an eternity. My hands are starting to sweat. I thought this would be an easy yes, but her hesitation is making me nervous.

She meets my gaze and I see they’re glassy.

“Please, say you’ll marry me,” I feel tears sting the back of my eyes. “I don’t think I could live my life without you always by my side.”

She hesitates for a moment longer, making my breath hitch, before flinging her arms around my neck.

“Yes, Yes, Yes! I’d love nothing more than to be your wife.”

When she pulls back, I grab her left hand and slip the ring on the fourth finger.

Out of the corner of my eye, I see more meteors shooting through the sky, but the only thing that has my full attention is Penny. A smile stretches across my face and I place my hands on her face. I lean in to kiss her, pulling her close to me. Penny wraps her arms around my waist and pulls me closer. I have no intention of ever letting this beautiful creature, my miracle, go.

“Your silence had me worried,” I whisper.

“Sorry. You caught me off guard. I wasn’t expecting this tonight.”

“What do you mean, you weren’t expecting it tonight?”

She turns and looks away from me, laughter dancing in her eyes.

“You know you’re a horrible liar, right?”

“Isn’t that a good thing?” Shock fills my voice at her admission.

“Absolutely.” She meets my eyes and the love I see there has my stomach drop and my body tingle. “It just means that I knew something was up, and I was pretty sure you were going to propose. I just wasn’t sure when.”

“You knew I was going to propose and you made me wait before answering?” My mouth drops open and my eyes widen.

“Not on purpose!” She exclaims, and I laugh out loud. God I love this woman. “I didn’t know how I would feel when you finally did ask.”

“And how did you feel?” I let my eyes roam over her face, wanting to memorize everything about her in this moment.

“Like everything that I have ever wanted was handed to me on a golden platter.” The smile she shines at me has my heart skip a beat.

I lean in to kiss her gently. I let my lips linger trying to make this moment last forever. I feel her lips smile against mine and my lips respond in kind. I can’t fully describe the joy that this woman brings me.

Her yes is one of trust, faith, and love. And I intend to prove just how much I honor that, and her, every day, for the rest of my life.
