I wouldn't have been more shocked if she'd told me Judith was a pig in a dress. "Prostitution?" That makes no sense to me. "I mean, she comes from a wealthy family. Why would she…"
"Because she wants to do what she wants, and her mother won't let her. She's inherently spoiled. I mean, we all are. I don't know what I'd do if my parents cut me off. Which they won't. They don't care the way Lara Cushman does."
I'm constantly reminded that the legacies are from another universe, but this takes the cake. "You wouldn't sell yourself."
Mel shrugs. "I mean, it's not like she's fucking just anyone. She chooses guys she wants, mostly from Cross, and she lets them know she'll blow them for a hundred bucks, or whatever. I think she enjoys it. That's not why I'm worried. It's the drugs. She’s taking more and more, and the kind of people who sell them to her aren't safe, Nadia."
No fucking shit. "Is there any way you can help her? Tell her mom to send her to rehab or something?"
"She's eighteen. No one can make her do anything. Cutting her off only pushed her closer to the edge. So, anyway, that's my issue with Judith. I don't like watching her hurt herself."
We're sitting in silence, my thought directed toward the gorgeous, seemingly carefree social butterfly who helped me pass chem lab junior year, when someone knocks at Melina's door.
She pushes up to her feet and opens the door. "What?" she says, clearly put out.
"You agreed to help, Mel." I'd recognize that voice anywhere. "You're not dressed like you remember that."
I turn to the door, and frown at finding Jason leaning in the door frame, like there's nothing more natural than for him to be in front of Melina's room.
She sighs. "I lost track of the time. Give me ten."
Jason's gaze slides away from her, over to me.
He stares at me as though he doesn't like what he's seeing. Like I don't belong here.
Yeah, well, I'm not particularly happy to see him either.
"Nadia."
"Jason," I reply, jaw tight.
He redirects his glare to Mel, who sighs again. "She had questions. About Judith, actually. And a lot of other stuff I shouldn't be the one telling her."
Jason looks back at me for a long while before straightening up and shoving his hands back in his pockets.
"Ten minutes, Mel."
CHAPTER SEVENTEEN
I'm going to explode and it won't be pretty.
"Jason, slow the fuck down!" Mel shouts from the back of my bike.
At least I think that's what she shouts. Not that it fucking matters. I don't care what she's saying, after the shit she pulled tonight.
Sheknowshow fucking close I am to losing it, and she's still rubbing all over Nadia like she belongs to her.
She doesn't. She's mine.
Mine, mine,mine.
If Melina wants to fuck my woman, she'll do it onmyterms.
"Dammit, Jason!" she yells. "You know I'm not moving on your fucking girlfriend. Slow down before you kill both of us!"
I'm an excellent driver, though admittedly, I'm in no state to push my bike this fast tonight.
I haven't been for a month.
