Dark Horse Husband
I don’t believe love makes a man better.
I’ve seen what happens when the wrong man gets everything he wants.
So marriage? Kids? A woman trusting me with her heart?
Not interested.
Then my family finds a way to put my frozen trust back in my hands, with one catch.
I have to get married and produce an heir.
Fine.
I’ll take the money that’s mine, marry the stranger they’ve chosen, and keep my heart out of it.
Except my new wife is five-foot-two, blonde, curvy, covered in freckles, and completely unimpressed by me.
She took the deal for financial security.
I took it for access to my trust.
We understand each other.
At least, I thought we did.
Because every time I push, she pushes back harder. Every time I expect her to want more from me, she surprises me by wanting me.
And somewhere between sharing her home, fixing everything I can get my hands on, and discovering how good my wife feels in my arms, this arrangement stops feeling temporary.
I want her.
In my bed. In my life. Carrying my ring because she wants to, not because a contract says she has to.
I want the family I swore I’d never risk having.
There’s only one problem.
I’ve spent my entire life terrified I’m exactly like my father.
And loving her means giving myself the chance to prove it.
Or finally prove everyone wrong.
Because I’m starting to think losing her would destroy me far faster than loving her ever could.
