I’m on leave, and while the others in my unit rush off to surprise their families and friends for Christmas, I’m happy to wait out the holiday in my isolated mountain cabin. It’s exactly what I want – peace, quiet, and absolutely no one singing carols at the crack of dawn or dragging me out of bed to open gifts bought at a convenience store at the last minute. That was my past and I’ve sworn never to repeat it.
But when I come across a woman stranded on the mountain road, her car loaded down with presents she’s determined to deliver, all my protective instincts flare to life, especially with a storm bearing down on us. I can’t leave her to freeze, but her idea that I can help her play Santa leaves me cold. At least, until the heat building between us erupts, and she makes me wish for something more.
