This time of year opens old wounds from my past. I hate Christmas. Everything about it. The twinkling lights. The scent of pine and cinnamon. The merry good cheer.

But I especially despise the reminder that I am single and need an heir. So this Christmas, I will give my old-world Italian family what they want. I’ll show off my new girlfriend at all the events I must attend. Embarrass myself by acting like I’ve fallen in love. And on Christmas, she’ll break my heart.
